Grass Fed Beef Has Some Awesome Health Benefits and It can Be Affordable Too!
Wondering why you would want to eat grass fed beef? Or wondering how you can afford it? Or simply need some grass fed beef recipes? You are in the right place! I have been learning about and eating grass fed beef for over 7 years. I believe in the health benefits and I enjoy the taste. Here are some of the best health benefits from grass fed beef:
Grass Fed Beef Benefits
Grass fed beef is far and above regular beef nutrition wise. I am so convinced of the health benefits of grass fed beef that even though we are on a tight budget, we still find ways to be able to buy grass fed beef.

Here are some of the amazing benefits of grass fed beef:
- Grass fed beef is lower in fat than regular beef. But more importantly, the fat in grass fed beef is actually healthy for you! The fat in regular beef often contains toxins and contaminants from what the cows were fed or injected with. The fat in grass fed beef however is fantastic.
- The fat in the beef along with the vitamins and minerals in grass fed beef helps to reverse tooth decay, and improve immunity to many diseases. Rami Nagel explains this in detail in his book “Cure Tooth Decay“.
- The organs of grass fed animals are especially high in the right fats and cofactors that play a part in helping to reverse cavities. I will be honest and say that I haven’t tried liver or other organs yet, but instead eat grass fed beef and add in some cod liver oil for extra protection for my teeth and bones.
- The bones from grass fed animals can be used to make a broth that is super high in nutrition and can be healing for the digestion as well as help to keep your bones and teeth strong.
- Grass fed beef is very high in B Vitamins, Selenium and Zinc. All of those are extremely important for healthy hormones, a healthy immune system, and for detox. On a personal note, the main reason I feel those specific vitamins and minerals are important to me is because I needed them for mercury detox. I made sure that I had plenty of B Vitamins, Selenium, and Zinc when I was working on mercury detox. I ate foods high in those vitamins and minerals and took supplements as well to make sure that I had enough. I believe it was a crucial part of my detox protocol.
- The healthy fats in grass fed beef help to keep blood sugar levels steady. I know this firsthand-when I was sick, toxic, and adrenal challenged I made sure that I got enough protein and fat every time that I ate. Trust me-I could tell if I didn’t!
Grass Fed Beef Prices (aka-How to Afford Grass Fed Beef)

Grass fed beef can be pricier than regular beef. Once you have tried it though, you will know why! The ground beef I buy is lower in fat-It doesn’t shrink nearly as much as regular beef.
It also tastes awesome and is filling. You can eat less of it and know that you are getting a superior form of protein. So, grass fed beef by its very nature is a good bargain in my book. However, there are other ways to make it stretch if your budget is tight:
Buy Ground Beef
One way I am able to afford grass fed beef is by purchasing only ground beef. We love the ground beef anyway, and are fine with this.
I can get grass fed ground beef for a little over $5.00 a pound in my area. Even though this is pricier than the other meats I buy, I can still make super cheap and healthy meals by pairing the beef with cheap sides like rice and inexpensive vegetables.
Make Broth
Another way to make the beef cheaper is to get some bones and make broth. You can get away with eating less meat if you make broth. Broth has a protein sparing effect so that you can get the same amount of nutrition with a smaller amount of meat. You can use the beef and broth to make soups or stews. Or you can use the broth to flavor a side dish like rice or potatoes.
Buy in Bulk from a Local Farmer
If you don’t want to eat only ground beef, you can ask your local grass fed beef farmer how much he would charge for a half of a cow. Sometimes you can get a much better deal this way. This is a great option if you have the freezer space.
If you don’t know of a local farmer, you can look up farmers on the Local Harvest website or the Eat Wild website.
Check out Your Local Aldi or Walmart
Many stores like Aldi and Walmart are starting to carry grass fed beef. Sometimes they have good prices on grass fed beef. I read online that Aldi’s grass fed beef was grass finished as well. That is important because it means the cows weren’t “fattened” up with gmo grain-that can take away the health benefits of grass fed beef. I would definitely check out your local Aldi and see what they offer.
Easiest Grass Fed Beef Recipe
Here is our easy and yummy method of cooking grass fed ground beef. It is super simple, but it tastes so good!
Ingredients:
- Grass Fed Ground Beef
- Coconut oil
- Salt
- Rice (Optional)
What We Do: (Formal Directions Below)
We warm up the pan first and then add coconut oil. This helps the food to not stick to the pan. (We use around a Tablespoon of oil.)
Once the oil is melted we add the beef and cover the pan. Since the beef is usually still partly frozen on the inside, we don’t even try to break it up at first. After it has cooked for a little with the lid on, we break up the meat.
We check it a couple of times and turn it over when needed. We usually let it cook till it begins to get a little “crunchy” on the bottom. Then it is ready to eat and it tastes so good! We add salt to taste.
We eat this with a plain starch like rice. If the rice is leftover rice from the fridge, I add it to the pan with the beef drippings and warm it up. This really tastes delicious!

I agree, grass fed beef is so amazing for our health – especially iron deficiency which I’ve struggled with in the past. We love the grass fed ground beef from ALDI – it’s a great price! Thanks for this helpful info 🙂
Hi Mary! I was also iron deficient at one time-that was another one of the reasons I made grass fed beef a priority in my diet. I haven’t tried the grass fed beef from Aldi, but I have heard good things about it and want to try it. I am glad the article was helpful. 🙂
Great info and tips! I stopped buying grass-fed a couple months ago when the budget was tight and I could definitely tell a difference in how my body reacted to it. 🙁 Hopefully things won’t be so tight soon and we can go back to it! Your tips on affording it will definitely help!
I hope you can start eating it again soon! There is definitely a big difference in quality. I definitely understand about tight budgets though. We tend to lean toward chicken when the budget is really tight. We still eat grass fed beef, but less of it.
I totally agree! We ate blessed to raise our own grass fed meat but if we couldn’t, I would totally have it in the budget.
That is awesome that you raise your own! I don’t know how to do that, but feel blessed to have found a local farmer that I trust.
I love grass-fed beef. Actually, organic grass-fed beef is the only beef I can eat. Regular store-bought beef gives me huge stomach pains. Thanks for including my lasagna recipe in your post!
I think it is awesome that you figured out that you can eat beef as long as it is grass fed. It really is completely different than “regular” beef.
And thank you for allowing me to share your recipe with my readers!
