The Best Virgin Coconut Oil Brands + How to Get the Lowest Price

Coconut oil is my go to for so many things, but it can be pricey.  Since I have many years of experience with different coconut oil brands and different places to buy coconut oil I thought I would share how I get  the best virgin coconut oils for the very cheapest price.

First of all, I buy the big 54 ounce container.  The price is much lower per ounce than the same coconut oil in a small container.  Coconut oil lasts a long time, so there is not much danger of it going bad.  It is very shelf stable-coconut oil does not have to be refrigerated. Coconut oil keeps its health properties even when stored for a long while.  (Many other oils lose quality the longer they are stored.)

But even if it didn’t store well I would still buy the big container.  Because coconut oil has so many benefits, I use it up before it has time to even think about going bad.  What do I use it for?  I’m glad you asked.  🙂

I use coconut oil every single day. That is how much I believe in it. I found coconut oil when I was dealing with some serious health concerns. (You can learn more about my story here.) Here are some of the reasons I love coconut oil-

• Coconut oil balances my hormones (Saturated fats are necessary to create hormones).  Coconut oil is great for the thyroid and the adrenals, so it boosts the metabolism in that way also.  When the thyroid and adrenals are working well, weight loss is a whole lot easier.  Since I have detoxed and upped my coconut oil intake, my hormones are more balanced and I have lost weight.  (I used to eat lower fat, and I was sicker and I weighed more.)

• My digestion is better-I use to struggle with candida and coconut oil is naturally anti-fungal.
• Goot-This is a remedy for colds and other illnesses.  It is a salve that you can rub on the bottoms of your feet to boost your immune system.  I like to use this when my kids are feeling nauseous and I don’t know if they can take anything by mouth, but I know they need help fighting off an illness.

What is the healthiest coconut oil to buy?

The purest form of coconut oil is unrefined coconut oil. This type of coconut oil will be called virgin or extra virgin. Both of those terms mean the same thing as far as coconut oil is concerned. There can be a difference in virgin or extra virgin olive oil, but you don’t have to worry about this distinction with coconut oil.

Another term that can be helpful when looking for quality coconut oils is cold pressed. This means that the oil was extracted from the coconuts without heating the oil too much (usually under 120 degrees). Note that this is different from expeller pressed. Expeller pressed can be good also, but sometimes it means that the oil was heated more than cold pressed oil. I like to look for “cold pressed” when I can.

Oils that are processed at lower temperatures have the best nutrition, flavor, and aroma. All the oils I recommend below have great flavor and aroma. I know because I have tried many coconut oils!

It is also great to get organic coconut oil. However, some non organic coconut oils are still super healthy because coconut oil is often sourced from the Philippines where pesticides aren’t usually sprayed on the coconuts anyway.

Bottom line-make sure your coconut oil is not refined, is virgin and/or cold pressed.

I buy coconut oil from Vitacost often because the price is really good and it is a very high quality coconut oil.  I buy both the organic and non organic, because both are good oils. But the organic isn’t much more than the non organic, so I often get the organic one.

Coconut Oil on Amazon

Amazon carries a brand of coconut oil called Carrington Farms. This coconut oil has a little bit of controversy to it because some people have said that it has an off taste. I have bought this brand many times, and there was only one time that it had an off taste. My guess is that it just was a bad batch. I have had it many times since then and it has been fine. This coconut oil is often a good price. Prices change frequently on Amazon so you might just want to check occasionally. Spectrum is another excellent brand available on Amazon. Sometimes there are sales or coupons available on Amazon and you can get Spectrum coconut oil for a really great price.

Walmart Coconut oIl

Walmart has their own brand of coconut oil. It is called Great Value Organic coconut oil. I bought it so that I could see if it was a quality oil and it is. It is comparable to many of the other oils that I have listed here. I have been able to get this oil for around $15.00.
